Maybe you enrolled in an adult school and life got in the way. Maybe you opened the math book, felt overwhelmed, and quietly closed it again. Maybe you've carried "I really need to get my GED" in the back of your mind for years.
If that's you, I want you to know something: Most adults without a GED are not lacking willpower. They need a program that understands real life.
Why I Started A Second Start
For years I have worked with adults who wanted something better for themselves and their families. What I learned had very little to do with algebra or grammar. Most people already believed they had failed. What they needed wasn't another worksheet. They needed someone who believed they could still succeed.
Again and again, I watched adults make incredible progress once they had encouragement, accountability, and someone willing to meet them where they were instead of where a textbook expected them to be. And eventually I realized something--
Getting a GED isn't the hardest part. Believing you're capable of earning it is.
A Second Start was created because I wanted adults to have the kind of support I always wished more programs could provide—personal, encouraging, practical, and built around real life.
Because your story isn't over. Sometimes it simply needs a second start.
My Background
Being an educator has always been my calling. My Master's degree in Education focused on the unique learning strategies for adults, how they learn best, and the need for emphasis on the person, not the content. Yet, it wasn't until I began working alongside adults returning to education through workforce and community programs, helping people rebuild confidence while working toward meaningful goals, that it all made sense.
Working with adult learners at Shasta Community College, Rogue Community College and non-profits Equus Workforce Solutions and Project Youth Plus, I saw firsthand that no two learners follow the same path. Some needed academic instruction. Others needed someone to help them believe they could finish what they had started years earlier. Those individuals and their success stories shaped A Second Start.
Instead of expecting people to fit into a rigid program, I built programs that adapt to the individual. Whether we're strengthening study habits through Foundations for Success or preparing for the GED through GED Accelerator, every student receives one-on-one coaching, individualized instruction, and a learning plan designed specifically for them.
How I Work
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all education.
When you make the decision to work with me, we begin by understanding where you are today—not just academically, but personally. Together we'll identify your strengths, the obstacles that have slowed you down, and the next realistic step forward.
Some students complete all four GED subjects in twelve weeks. Others need more time. Either outcome is okay.
My promise isn't that you'll finish on a particular date. My promise is that you'll always know your next step, you'll receive honest guidance, and you'll never have to figure it out alone. Progress matters more than perfection.
